Virgin Media have released a clever iPhone and Android app that will help their landline customers save money on their mobile phone bill. The free app, called SmartCall is exclusive to Virgin Media customers. SmartCall works on up to two devices simultaneously - so you can share it with another member of the family. Perfect if you live with a phone hogger! SmartCall works on any mobile network provider, all you need is a WiFi connection. You can even make free calls to the UK from abroad! It works in a similar way to Skype, using the internet connection to dial 0800, 0845 and 0870 numbers - calls that mobile carriers usually charge a premium for. The advantage over Skype is that the person you are calling does not need the SmartCall app - they don't even need to be a Virgin Media! customer
Wherever you are in the world, this clever little app lets you access your Virgin Media calling plan. So, if your Virgin Media account is on an Anytime calling tariff - so is your SmartCall app! It's particularly handy for those on a pay-as-you-go contract who have access to a WiFi connection, as the app will not use up any mobile credit. The app makes life easy by automatically syncing with your mobile phone's contact list. There's no prefix number to remember either - just click and call.
