Broadband Guide - What you need to know
BT Broadband speed test error

We're a big fan of BT Broadband, but BT is deceiving their customers by providing an extremely inaccurate speed test facility. When we tried the broadband performance test provided by BT wholesale - the results were outstanding! Our 30Mbps broadband connection achieved speeds as low as 0 and as high as 119Mbps (at least, according to the BT speed checker). An increase of over 296% on the maximum that we can achieve.

These extraordinary leaps in speed could be achieved by simply switching to a different website browser. We reported this problem back in May 2020 but received no response and there has clearly been no resolution. Perhaps misleading consumers is not a concern? Whilst we used to rate the BT Wholesale broadband tester, we now don't believe it's fit for purpose. Our test was carried out using macOS Monterey on a fixed wired connection using three of the most popular web browsers on macOS: Safari, Google Chrome & Firefox.

In our opinion the BT broadband performance test provided by BT wholesale is not fit for purpose

BT have been deceiving customers for nearly 2 years by providing an extremely inaccurate speed test facility. Our 30Mbps broadband connection managed to achieve 119Mbps according to BT. This facility is not fit for purpose and your consumers need to know! @bt_uk
